Racing through the burning and collapsing factory the two warbands notice movement down an adjacent wing.....and the glint of arcane treasures.
The 3rd game in our (mostly) cooperative campaign has the crews on a time limit to get in, grab what they can, and get out before the complex is finally consumed/explodes.
Notably, within this wing are some automatons, whose purpose somehow involves flaming nearby objects with arcane heat.
I loved the artwork from the book, and apparantly someone with real skills did as well because I was able to find an stl of a flame flinger and print out a couple for the game. A pretty basic copper paint job went on them. I'll probably return to it one day and add some additional colour and basing.
A pictorial essay of the game to follow...
My druid warband is faced with the nearest quest being well guarded by flame flingers. The highly useful spell of fog is used to cover their advance.
Being short one flame flinger a floppy automaton is a fill in for the much cooler minis. The sigilist warband closes quickly to try and destroy the monster.
The druid et al continue to sneak through deep mists following closely behind the clanking of the nearby flame flingers. They have already recovered one chest and are moving towards a second.
Where'd that bit of undercooked meat go? He was here a moment ago.....
The druid heroically moves within clear visual range of some flame flingers in order to buy the space/time for his henchmen to drag the chests free.
The orange circles represent large fires from the proceeding destruction of the complex.
A fog bank disappears at an inopportune time so the druids warband, weighed down by chests, is forced to rush one of the guardians. The red injury tokens are, unfortunately, being carried by the humans and not the automaton.
Both warbands have very much ended up on opposite ends of the table. Carrying 2 chests a piece, and eyeing the last one, within the large building, half way between them.
The druid fades back into the fogs after having drawn too much attention.
Despite dealing with far less opposition the Sigilists minions are pretty hurt. They drag their chests as fast as they can towards safety. Time is running short for all involved. One last tantalizing chest (the 5th) remains in the church like building.
Finally the flame flinger is brought down, and another fog bank dropped to prevent new guests from bee lining for the injured party members.
An unfortunate wander of a mass of flames crisps the druid a bit as he races to contest the last chest.
Hilarity ensues as the two wizards use telekinesis spells and other under handed maneuvers to attempt to seize the last treasure chest for themselves. The sigilist manages to snake it away as sharp detonations coming their way signals the final destruction of the complex.
Vowing revenge for various (imagined and real) infractions by their "loyal" ally the magic users demonstrate the typical relations between wizards in the frozen city: goods before good will.
Pretty cool again, the campaign is unfolding quite properly! I love the display and the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was fun to start 'cooperative' and naturally the digs and greed emerged.
DeleteThe fun campaign continues! Nice pics all around. 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew
DeleteThat mission is a bugger. I think it's the only one I've actually played in Frostgrave.
ReplyDeleteAnother enjoyable report though Dave!
Thanks Dai. I think all three of the mini campaign missions were a bit of a bugger. They are well crafted.
