6MMRPC Week 7.5: Saracen pt 1: Archers

First pictures of a wave of 15mm muslim/saracens from Legio Heroica.

I bought a lot of these guys back in December in order to play the middle east SAGA (Crescent and Cross). While Cameron finished his hospitallers in FEBRUARY, I'm just finishing mine now. Shameful slow on my part.

Part of the delay is the multi-hued and patterned clothing....totally adds to painting time. The past week and a half I've been in basing hell, attempting to base up a ton of loose 15mm figs. Most haven't yet gotten the painted rock treatment, and are just sitting on the bevelled raised bases.

  1. Wait, these are 15mm!? Totally thought they were 28mm....

In that case, very well done sir. The patterned dresses look great!

    1. Very flattering. I thank you. They are indeed 15mm. I totally ripped off some internet resources with how they painted their muslims. The patterning is a huge pain to do, and a big time sink, but it does look very satisfying when done.

  2. They look great. I can't wait to smash them and establish a new holy kingdom on their bones.

    1. Well we both know that it's my utter disregard for any threat you could possibly offer which lets you survive at all. Should you do well (the hand of god punishing us for totally unrelated items), we will pay attention to you and crush you. Tribute for armistices gladly accepted.

  3. I find 15mm very intimidating to paint - I think I will stick to my heroic 28mm scale minis. You did an awesome job! I love how individual they all are and yet work well as a cohesive group

    1. I was a bit concerned at times they'd end up completely colour dis-coordinated and not looking like they belong. I tried to limit the colour palette, and use the same colour on different parts of models across the groups. Glad to hear it worked out.

It's very interesting changing painting scales. I like that with 15mm you can really gloss over certain bits and rely on inks and a dab of highlight sometimes. 28mm often require a lot more work (strangely) and I get a bit stressed going back and forth. I think it probably makes you a better painter trying to do both.

  4. I've been debating doing C&C in 15mm and after seeing these, probably will bite that bullet after the challenge is over! Great work man!

    1. Cameron has some amazing 15mm stuff, including SAGA (classic). He is also a much better painter than me. http://cameronstinylittlemen.blogspot.ca/search/label/15mm
